Homemade Bait: Choosing the correct bait can be quite the challenge. Several anglers have there own bait that they make them self. Some will say that is even secret. I will share some recipes below that does work for big fish. If you have your own bait recipe, send it to us and we will add this to our site.

| Best Bait For Big Blues & Flathead Catfish |

Live Bait For Blues & Flatheads: Shad, bluegills, carp, drums, crappie, crawfish, leeches, night crawlers, israeli carp, skipjack herring and bass. The list goes on but these are the most popular live baits for big catfish. Most of these baits are easy to come by at your local baitshop.

Doughbait: Berkley, Eagle Claw and Magic Bait all make some nice dough bait. This bait catches channel catfish but seldom's catches blues and flatheads.
Stinkbait: This is an excellent choice for channel catfish. Blues and flatheads are very seldom caught on this type of bait. Try this on channels at your favorite fishing spot.
Preserved Bait: Rusty's makes some nice bags of shad and chicken livers. The chicken livers are great for channel catfish. The bags of shad is an excellent choice when fishing for blue catfish and channel catfish. |

Ingredients:
1 lb Boneless chicken breast 2 packs of cherry kool aid mix
1 lb ziplock bag
Preparation:
Cut chicken breast into small pieces, rinse with water so chicken pieces are moist
Put jello mix into 1 lb ziplock bag and add chicken. Shake the chicken and jello up so that the jello covers chicken completely. Put into refrigerator overnite and allow jello to soak into the chicken. Makes enough for a whole days fishing. Don't add alot of water to the chicken as you want the kool aid to be thick on the chicken pieces. This is really great bait for big blue catfish. |

Ingredients:
1 package of Yeh Monn catfish bait (Uncle Josh pork rind baits will work also)
2 large skipjack herring
1 roll of plastic wrap
Preparation:
Cut pork rind or yeh monn catfish bait into 1" long pieces
Slice the belly open of the skipjack herring, Tuck all the small piece inside of the skipjack herring and wrap up with the plastic wrap. Make sure the fish is wrapped good to hold all of the flavor and smell inside the wrap. Place outside for 1 - 2 days and allow all the fish oil from the skipjack herring to soak into the small pieces you placed inside the belly. This is really great bait for big blue catfish and works. We have tested this and have caught 100's of fish on this bait.
Also remember to use the skipjack for bait also. |

Ingredients:
1 bag soft pretzel dough (about 2 cups of mix)
1 pkg. of yeast
1/4 c. cheap pizza seasoning
1 pkg. mayacamas skillet toss (dried tomato powder)
Or
1 pkg. spaghetti sauce (powder)
½ c. powdered cheddar cheese
1 bulb garlic
pureed in blender with a little water
Preparation:
Mix all dry ingredients first- use warm water
use parchment paper on cookie sheet
spread dough completely on cookie sheet
preheat @ 375 baking will vary start with 20 minutes
top of mixture should have a tough crusty feel (like pizza crust)
use no oils
ingredients for cheap pizza seasoning
oregano, basil, marjoram, thyme, garlic powder, crushed red peppers, savory?
THIS IS MY OWN BAIT RECIPE...CATFISH LOVE IT!!

Ingredients:
flour
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
4 tbl spoons cinnamon
onion powder 2-3 teaspoons
garlic powder or salt 2-3 teaspoons
1/2 cup water
Preparation:
mix all dry ingredients first. then mix in egg and a little water to get a firm but sticky dough. don't add too much water or the dough will be too soft. store in fridge. I placed this in the fridge for about an hour and then pre rolled balls and rolled them in a little flour to keep them from sticking then placed them into a container and put into freezer.

Ingredients:
Cattle Cubes or Hog Pellet Feed
Corn Meal
Powdered Garlic
Sweet Anise Spice
Plain Flour
Preparation:
Take 1/2 lb cattle cubes or hog pellet feed, soak in warm water till you can make a mush of them. Then add 1 cup of corn meal and mix then 2 tbl spoons powdered garlic, 2 tbl spoons sweet anise spice. Mix all this well then start adding plain flour and knead into a fairly stiff dough. Roll into 50 cent size balls or a little larger. Store in fridge. This bait has never failed me on channels, flathead and blues. Fishing lakes, Texhoma, Murray, Meredith, Hugo and Pat Mays. TRY IT!!
