When a trophy fish is pulling hard and running deep, the Smart Shift reel automatically shifts into low gear to give you the cranking power you need to gain line on your opponent. When that fish comes up jumping or makes a hard charge towards the boat, the Smart Shift reel automatically shifts back into high gear where it can rapidly pick up slack line to avoid a thrown hook or a foul wrapped fish.
